Selvallafoss on Snæfellsnes Peninsula aka Sheeps Waterfall

Selvallafoss is a small, secluded waterfall in the middle of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes Peninsula, along Route 56 (Vatnaleið) near Selvallavatn lake. It’s one of those places that is easy to miss and that’s part of its charm.
Selvallafoss is sometimes called “Sheep’s Waterfall” because sheep have traditionally been known to seek shelter beneath the cliffs around the falls, particularly from Iceland’s wind. One description of the area notes that sheep can even rest beneath the waterfall’s sheltered ledges.
The waterfall itself is actually a series of cascades, rather than one enormous drop. The total height is around 63 feet (19 meters ), with the tallest individual cascade about 36 feet (11 meters). Moss-covered volcanic rock surrounds the falls, giving it a very different character from Iceland's huge, dramatic waterfalls.
From the waterfall and nearby viewpoint, you can see Selvallavatn, volcanic terrain, moss-covered lava and the surrounding mountains. The combination of greens, dark volcanic rock and water makes it a particularly nice photography location.
