Crew 8 Flies Over The Cove On The ISSOne more down on my quest to capture Crew 8 as they cruise around our little rock! This time, it was an early evening fly-over just after sunset at 9:52 pm on May 30, 2024, while the Sun's rays could still provide enough of a reflection off the Station to light them up for a brief few minutes as they sailed overhead. It rose in the NW portion of the sky and proceeded over The Cove to the South. With a magnitude of -4.2, it was very easily visible (keep in mind, the more negative the number of magnitude, the brighter of visibility; a full moon has a magnitude of -13 for comparison). It took only 4 minutes total before it faded into the night. This image is approximately 2 minutes of its visible journey. During that 2 minute exposure, you can also see some star trails as they too moved through my frame. While it looked like a smooth sail overhead, the Station hurtles through space at 17,500 mph on its orbit around Earth. Click on the photo to see a larger version, and to see more in my nightscapes and astro images. You can also see my Lunar Transit HERE and the actual launch images HERE and HERE. Comments
